Settled Science: Bah, Humbug

Normally, global warming believers and advocates belong to the political left. Skeptics and deniers are constantly demeaned as members of the extreme right wing of the planetary polis.

That is what makes Alexander Cockburn's article on anthropogenic global warming so interesting. Cockburn is a card-carrying leftist; no one could ever challenge his credentials as a radical of the most leftist tinge.

Yet, here he is, in The Nation, of all places, concluding from his reading of the recently-divulged emails from the Climate Research Unit of the University of East Anglia that man-made global warming is a "farce. Link here.

Those of us who believe in rigorous public debate and discussion, and who revile the notion that people must all adhere to party-line dogma on global warming and other public policy issues will find Cockburn's article refreshing, even cause for rejoicing.
